How do you rest?

I’ve been giving a lot of thought to ‘rest‘ lately. You know, taking some time out, having a day off, slowing down, chilling out, etc.
I want to explore this some more in future blog posts but, as part of this focus, I wanted to generate some conversation about this first.
Something I’m pretty convinced of is that rest looks different for each of us. For me, being around lots of people is not at all restful. For my wife Rachel though, so is so energised and refreshed being around others.
For one person, reading my be restful. And for another, climbing up a mountain may just be the restful tonic they need.
So, here’s the question. What do you find restful? How do you like to rest when you get the chance?

great topic Sam, one i’m hugely trying to explore more of…
and you’re right on, it means different things to different people, but just about all of us need more of it.
a few for me
- reading on a beautiful beach
- hanging with my family when my daughter’s in a sweet mood
- moments i remember to breathe

Hi Sam,
well rest is something that i’m meant to have been doing a lot of recently and is something i’m not very good at! - actually that’s a lie - i can (and love) ‘rest’ in the still sense in small portions - rest to me is staying in bed in the morning and watching breakfast TV with a cuppa. Rest is also chilling on the sofa watching a good film that i can sing along to - like i did with moulin rouge yesterday. Actually this sounds quite good - maybe i like rest more than i thought!
But it doesn’t have to be still time - i think i really view rest as a time when i’m doing something i want which recharges my batteries. In that case it’s anytime i spend with chris, time spent talking on the phone to my friends, swimming, walking in the peaks and lake district and doing anything that makes me laugh!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Anna! I liked what you said about rest being whatever recharges your batteries. I think that nails this perfectly.
I think that connects with one other thought that I had yesterday. And that is that rest is something that should be both FROM work and FOR work. (I’m hoping to expand on that later thought later this week!)
